About

Cambodia. Archives. History. Atrocity. Education. The Into the Archives website hosts my research at the intersections of each of these areas. I have long been interested in how societies cope and reconcile in the aftermath of atrocities such as war crimes, crimes against humanity, and the crime of crimes – genocide. My primary goal is to answer the question: what happens after atrocity? In addressing this question, the articles I post examine how atrocity is memorialised, what voices are heard and which are silent or silenced and why, what the role of archives and archivists is in transitional justice, as well as what good atrocity education looks like. This website is part of a humble personal effort to understand and prevent the most inhumane acts we continue to subject each other to.

My name is Scott Rawlinson, PhD. For as long as I can remember, I have been a student of history both personally and academically – I completed a BA 20th Century History (University of Hull), an MA South East Asian Studies (School of Oriental and African Studies), and PhD in Politics (University of East Anglia).
